Roller Coaster Museum Debuts New Way for Internet Trolls to be Productive and Helpful
The latest offering in the museum’s online gift shop turns “hot takes” online into cold, hard donations.
The National Roller Coaster Museum and Archives, the world’s largest collection of amusement ride vehicles and other historic artifacts, is proud to announce a new, online donation tool that converts internet trolling into productive, charitable contributions.
Users can visit www.rollercoastermuseum.org/shop and select “Internet Complaint.” From there, they type their comment, check out and actually put their money where their mouth is.
“This tool is a wonderful opportunity for people to get out their aggressions in a way that actually helps versus harms,” said Pete Owens, Director of Marketing and Communications for the NRCMA. “Instead of just complaining about something from behind a screen, your ‘hot take’ can now positively contribute to the mission of the museum.”
Unfortunately, this unique fundraising campaign does not work outside of the museum’s own website. However, engineers at the top social media companies are actively working with the museum to copy its model for their own, future app updates.
While the announcement of this new product may coincide with April Fools’ Day, the mission of the museum and its volunteers – historic preservation – is no joke.
Those individuals and organizations looking for a more traditional way to contribute to the cause can still do so at: www.rollercoastermuseum.org/give or by mailing the NRCMA at: P.O. Box 5424, Arlington Texas 76005.
